SONIC BLANKETS
2023
Sculpture,  4 x 5ft
sculpture, sound design, projection mapping and video.

Sonic Blankets is an immersive video installation centered around a blanket stitched from an old Jamdani saree. Jamdani, an intricate handloom weaving technique native to Bengal, carries a deep cultural lineage. It’s geometric motifs are counted thread by thread, often inspired by elements of nature. Taking the motifs out of the fabric to rethink its digital location. I extracted and reimagined these motifs through stencils, stamps, and projections digitally layering them into an environment to convey memory, sound, and textile. Inspired by the sensory overload of Dhaka’s urban infrastructure, the piece rethinks tradition into new media spaces. Rather than duplicating Jamdani with technological processes, I ask: how can these forms be reanimated in contemporary art and fashion without erasing their origins? Sonic Blankets has appeared in underground dance floor settings, employing textile motifs to interpret visual languages of contemporary celebration and culture
